Controls Engineer

Our client is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, implement and maintain PLC systems in order to meet customer requirements and automate internal processes. The selected candidate will have excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills as well as a strong background in system integration. Responsibilities will include the ability to create and modify electrical schematics using SolidWorks Electrical or other electrical schematic creation program and programming PLC systems to control machinery and automate processes according to project requirements. They will also develop comprehensive documentation including user manuals and operating procedures for PLC systems. The Controls Engineer will work closely with electrical and mechanical engineers as well as project managers to ensure the seamless integration of PLC systems with other components and also conduct thorough testing to identify and resolve issues.

To be successful in this role candidates must have experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting, ideally with Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley tools. Proficiency with Siemens TIA Portal desired. Knowledge/experience with Ladder Logic, structured Text and Function Block Diagrams desired as well. Knowledge of NFPA 70 is preferred.

Additional Responsibilities and Qualifications
• Provide technical support and assistance during the installation, commissioning, and startup of PLC-controlled systems.
• Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and advancements in PLC technology to continuously improve processes and systems.
• Assist in training maintenance personnel and operators on the proper operation and maintenance of PLC systems.
• Adhere to safety standards and regulations while designing and implementing PLC-controlled systems.
• Strong understanding of industrial automation systems, including sensors, actuators, solenoids and auto-valves.
• Familiarity with communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, and Profibus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
