Our client is seeking an Estimating Project Engineer to join their successful team south of Boston, MA. This position involves taking customer designs / specifications and developing a design in accordance with ASME Section 8 Div 1 Code rules. This includes determining the most cost effective design, developing a detailed BOM; gathering associated material & sub-contract cost estimates; developing a fabrication process along with an associated labor estimate; and rolling all cost estimates into a cost summary to be provided to the VP of Business Development in order to facilitate a formal quote to the customer.
Estimating Project Engineer responsibilities will include:
• Log RFQs into customer contact manager system for tracking
• Read & understand customer design / specification requirements
• Develop an economical design in accordance with ASME Section 8 Div 1 design rules
• Develop a detailed design BOM using Excel spreadsheet format
• Develop associated cost estimates for both materials and associated project sub-contracts
• Develop a fabrication process with associated labor estimate
• Develop NDE & QA requirements
• Develop a project cost summary for submittal to VP of Business Development
• Develop a Technical Sales Order summary for projects for which a PO has been received
• Assist Engineering Layout personnel with project requirements
• Assess and handle customer changes to project requirements & up-date costs as needed
• Follow established procedures for RFQ / Quote & SO filing of project documents
• Run project cost outs for review of project performance & for future RFQ estimates
• Assist shop personnel with project guidance
• Participate in customer meetings and resolving customer engineering & management project issues
• Interface closely with customers to develop solutions to meet the customers’ needs
Estimating Project Engineer Background profile:
• BS in Engineering Discipline – Mechanical Engineering preferred (BSME)
• 5 years or more of direct work experience in a project management / estimating capacity, including all aspects of process development and execution.
• SolidWorks or AutoCAD highly desirable.
• In depth knowledge of ASME Section 8 Div 1 Code
• Ability to work with an ASME Code design program – Codeware Compress or equivalent
• Experience in working with multiple discipline projects.
• Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite.
• Experience to be able to read & understand customer specifications
• Experience with material suppliers & sub-contract services – ability to specify project requirements
• Experience with fabrication processes and associated labor requirements
• Experience with NDE, PWHT & welding process requirements
• Experience with metal fabrication principles & techniques
• In depth knowledge of metal fabrication equipment including mills, lathes, thermal cutting, rolling / forming and welding.
