Lead Process Engineer

Our client is seeking a Lead Process Engineer to join their creative and successful team northwest of Boston, MA. In this role you will focus on the process control and operations readiness of the pilot scale manufacturing facility and thereafter to assist with technology transfer to a scaled manufacturing facility. This position is integral to support operations, process, system control and scale with a data driven approach. This position requires a strong working knowledge of upstream and downstream manufacturing equipment, process and operations with strong investigational and root cause analysis skills.

Responsibilities will include:
• Determine and document process parameters based on customer and internal requirements
• Define, measure & control KPVs to ensure processes meet technical requirements
• Perform process and equipment qualifications, while diagnosing out of control SPC events, and implementing corrective actions to equipment and/or process conditions
• Coordinate and technically lead cross-functional project teams to achieve process capability and complete scrap reduction projects on time and within budget
• Aid in root cause analyses for any non-conforming material or conditions and implement corrective actions
• Work with Manufacturing Operations Manager and Product Engineering Manager to establish process capability targets
• Work with cross-functional engineering teams to represent process engineering for the design and implementation of equipment and process modifications, in-process measurements, etc.
• Work with product engineers to ensure design for manufacturability focused on efficiency, capability, and cost reduction
• Support product engineering team by providing process analysis and data
• Support production personnel on training, troubleshooting processes, developing maintenance plans, operating instructions and other associated documentation for successful operation
• Identify and execute DOEs and trials needed to validate process improvements
• Perform PFMEA and JSA on process changes and improvements
• Work on and participate in special projects as assigned by manager

Background profile:
• BSc with 4-8 years relevant experience, or 8+ years’ relevant experience.
• 3+ years’ experience in a controlled manufacturing environment.
• 3+ years’ technical leadership with other engineers and demonstration of achievement of quantifiable process improvements.
• Experience analyzing processes with SPC and DOE methodology.
• Advanced proficiency or expert knowledge of Minitab or JMP software, preferably both.
• Advanced or expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• 3+ years’ using Six Sigma principles in a manufacturing environment and demonstrated working knowledge of projects completed using said principles

Preferred Experience
• Experience with ceramics and polymers for industrial applications
• Adept skills using Microsoft Office suite
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills across engineering, operations disciplines
• 3+ years’ experience which includes project management and execution of projects in an industrial environment
• Hands on experience operating, maintaining, and optimizing additive manufacturing processes including software, CAD models, and other tools
• Broad understanding of processes, systems and technical aspects of scaled manufacturing
• Data driven mentality that seeks to produce innovation and improve process capability and efficiency
• Six sigma green belt or black belt
• Experience with deployment of control plans and data collection systems for reporting and process monitoring
