Manager, Materials & Process Engineering

Our client is seeking a Manager, Materials & Process Engineering to join their talented team northwest of Boston, MA.  They are using cutting edge technology to increase the efficiency of complex manufacturing processes as well as advance engineering design capabilities.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Material & Process Engineering Manager is a technical people leader who will lead a team of engineers to manage and improve a growing portfolio of material products and manage and improve control of manufacturing processes, responsible to ensure process conformity through an industrialization process that will see multi-site expansion and a 20X volume growth in the next 5 years.

Responsibilities will include:
• Lead materials and process engineering team to improve and control material product and manufacturing process specifications across our client’s manufacturing line.
• Oversee management of material quality lab, including processing equipment, analytical testing equipment and technical instrumentation.
• Lead continuous improvement projects across material process, material product & Analytical Quality Control (AQC) process limits, work instructions, and product specifications, releasing validated improvements to QMS.
• Oversee and control process parameters within 3D printer fleet and across 3D print post-processing operations.
• Define, measure & control KPVs, correlating to, and measuring against, product requirements.
• Support product engineering during NPI.
• Support production with training, troubleshooting, work instructions and other documentation as needed.
• Set and maintain capability targets across critical and significant process steps.
• Care for the growth and career development of direct reports, defining and managing individual growth paths against our client’s development roadmap.
• Develop and execute a vision for multi-site team expansion and ongoing execution.

Background profile:
• B.S. with 7-10 years’ experience, or MSc with 5-7 years relevant experience in Ceramic Injection Molding, Reaction Injection Molding, Photochemistry, Acrylic Materials, or Stereolithographic 3D printing.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an ISO 9001 or more stringent manufacturing environment.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Fixed Process environment, preferably aerospace.
• Experience in identifying and controlling structure-property relationships at the material level, applied in ceramic injection molding, reaction injection molding, composite molding and / or stereolithographic 3D printing.
• 5+ years’ experience in engineering people management.
• Proficiency in Minitab, JMP or SAS engineering analysis tools.
• Six Sigma Green Belt and 3+ years’ applied Six Sigma engineering experience or 5+ years’ applied Six Sigma engineering experience.
• Experience managing across various TRL and MRL levels, with demonstrated capability for multi-site technology transfer.

Preferred experience
• Advanced proficiency in Minitab, JMP, or SAS engineering analysis tools.
• 5+ years’ experience in ceramic core for aerospace casting.
• Six Sigma Black Belt.
