Materials Coordinator

Our client, an established fabricator producing niche, very precise metal products is seeking a Materials Coordinator to join their team. Working closely with the Manufacturing Manager, you will be directly responsible for the daily running of the manufacturing floor in terms of planning, inventory and production control.
• Generate all process plans for manufacturing floor. Follow internal planning processes for repeat orders, repeat orders with changes, and new products. Review quoting spreadsheet and investigate discrepancies in time allotted per job.
• Revise process plans as required when improvements in process or quality steps dictate. Reviewing those plans often to ensure accuracy and Interface directly with customer as required for delivery and job status.
• Coordinate with the Manufacturing Manager to oversee the purchase of any additional raw material and outside services required to support production. Using the ERP system, generate purchase orders based on system demand as needed or guide buyer’s efforts.
• Coordinate vendor deliveries with production schedule, following up with all vendors as necessary to insure on-time delivery. Work cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate maintenance of inventory and received goods and to monitor and evaluate vendor performance. Identify new and backup suppliers as needed and negotiate optimal pricing.
• Monitor and maintain inventory stock levels as established for all production material, manufacturing and packaging supplies. Oversee cycle counting and physical inventories. Work with Manufacturing Manager to establish and refine procedures as well as to evaluate inventory and inventory variances and setting minimum stocking levels for critical materials
Production Control
• Review all new work orders for delivery dates and coordinate the resolution of discrepancies with the Sales department. Assist in the development and execution of daily, weekly, monthly production schedules.
• Assist the Manufacturing Manager to ensure complete and accurate labor tracking of jobs, to ensure the timely and economical production, inspection, and shipment of all orders, and to develop budget, manpower and capital requirements to accomplish this task as directed with an eye out for continuous improvement opportunities.
• Regularly determine and keep Management and Sales apprised of general lead times for jobs requiring critical bottleneck processes.
Required Background
• 8+ years’ experience in Production Planning/Scheduling or Production Control roles.
• Previous Customer and Vendor contact, including negotiation and problem resolution experience.
• Proven and motivated leader
• Significant comfort level working with ERP systems and tools for scheduling, purchasing, shipping, etc.
• BS Degree a plus
• Six Sigma/Lean experience helpful
• The ability to lift to 50 lbs required
