Our client is an exciting Boston-based startup whose technology combines additive manufacturing with advanced materials. They are currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to work with their engineering team to evaluate, develop, verify, and validate improved design and manufacturing methods of new injection molding and tooling using additive manufacturing to accelerate design iterations, reduce NPI design/manufacturing cycle times and increase production yields for customers. Alongside a highly talented team you will deliver solutions to globally challenging problems in one of the world’s most complex engineering sectors.

Mechanical Design Engineer responsibilities include:

• Develop, verify and validate feasibility of new injection mold and tooling concepts
• Design injection molds and tooling with design for manufacturability with additive manufacturing
• Develop and implement design improvements to existing tooling concepts and determine how/if to advise customers
• Complete statistical analysis of manufactured parts in support of process improvement efforts and apply statistical analysis to mold and tooling design
• Contribute to design reviews and lead RCA activities with cross-functional engineering teams
• Work closely with quality team to improve quality of manufactured molds and tooling
• Collaborate with production team to improve process capabilities
• Build and maintain BOMs, prints and other technical documentation necessary to manufacture, sell, track and operate our client’s unique tooling

Mechanical Design Engineer background profile:

• BS or MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 5 years’ experience in manufacturing/design environment OR HS Diploma with 10+ years of experience in manufacturing/design environment
• Advanced proficiency in Siemens NX CAD software preferred
• 4+ years’ High Pressure Turbine airfoil design experience highly desired
• Experience reading technical drawings, proficiency in GD&T & completing technical writing
• Knowledge of additive manufacturing, generative design, surface optimization for geometry modification preferred
• Knowledge of/experience with tooling and fixture design for investment casting preferred
• Familiarity with Design for Six Sigma or Design for Manufacturing, or probabilistic design
• Familiarity with Statistical Process Control concepts
• Proficiency in Solidworks and/or OnShape preferred
• Affinity for working in a fast-paced environment with changing directives and moderate levels of ambiguity
