Our client is seeking a Manager of Applications Development to be responsible for customer success with our client's new energy engine and power systems. This role is heavily outwardly-focused (30/70 - internal/external).

This person defines, creates and cultivates highly-motivated teams tasked with leading the successful integration of products into customer vehicles and similar applications. The Manager's areas of ownership include determination (in concert with Marketing) of customer needs, management and translation into product requirements. The Manager and his/her team execute product proof of performance activities and demonstrations in support of dealer and major account sales. They collect detailed technical performance and failure logging data during demonstrations and beta test campaigns and ensure this information is clear and understood by the operations, development and platform teams. They are responsible for leading technical qualification of products in OEM vehicles and providing technical support and troubleshooting for beta product test campaigns.

The Manager and his/her team is the primary customer (technical) interface for new business development projects and are responsible for leading and managing the scope for customization of products for customer applications. They also perform in-applications controls tuning and performance optimization. As a member of the Development Division staff, this person is expected to dynamically manage priorities to clear roadblocks based on business needs and to prioritize resources to contain and resolve rapid-response, customer-impacting issues.

Job Responsibilities Include:

People: Supervise staff of up to 6 in engine applications engineering, demonstration and deployment. Ensure team is high-performing and is committed to doing what it takes to make our client's customers successful in using their products.

Demo Execution: Demonstrations and "proof-of-performance" campaigns will be set up by sales for key new accounts. These will require technical execution, monitoring, troubleshooting, data collection and reporting.

OEM Qualification: Qualification and/or certification of our client's products in original equipment manufacturer's (OEM) vehicles will be required in many instances to support sales and supply contracts. These will require technical execution, monitoring, troubleshooting, data collection and reporting.

New business development projects / new vehicle engine integration: As our client's family of products grows new application projects will be won requiring technical support and project execution.

Competitive/Industry Analysis: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, competitive products and customer activities in new energy systems including hydrogen and fuel cells. Keep our client "in the know" regarding the state-of-the art in PEM fuel cells applications and other industry advancements.

Product Line Strategy Group (PLSG): Provide customer and applications perspective, recommendations and readiness/risk data to the PLSG in setting the long-term product roadmap

Background Profile:

  • B.S. or M.S. in a related engineering/technical field
  • 10+ years of engineering/development experience that will include experience in a customer facing role for complex integrated systems.
  • 7+ years of project/program/design management/supervisory experience.
