Staffing for Technical Management Positions
TRIAD Engineering is a technical staffing agency serving companies throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Located in the Greater Boston area, we have been strategic partners for numerous companies since 1969.
A Sample of the Technical Management Positions We Support
VP Of Engineering
Each year TRIAD places an increasing number of management-level engineering professionals. The most senior of these managers hold the title of VP of Engineering. Of course, not every technical firm has a VP, and management titles and responsibilities within specific firms varies considerably based on size and industry.
The VP of Engineering is a key member of the senior management team, helping to set the company’s strategic direction. Many of the VPs with whom TRIAD works have advanced degrees in a business-related field in addition to their technical degree(s). This thought leader is responsible for all of engineering and facilitates collaboration across disciplines within the company.
Director Of Engineering
For firms with a Director of Engineering, there may be multiple engineering managers reporting to him/her. In smaller firms, this engineer may be responsible for all of engineering and will interface with the leadership of other departments. In most situations, the Director will manage priorities and resources between teams.
Engineering Manager
Regardless of size, most firms will have a senior engineer with the title of Engineering Manager. Larger companies may have several engineers with this title, each responsible for their particular discipline (mechanical, systems, etc.). Engineering Managers have an in-depth technical understanding of the specific product (or areas of the product within a larger organization), and may manage multiple Project Managers.
Program Manager
The Program Manager maintains a leadership role coordinating all engineering efforts required to successfully complete an important project. In this capacity, he/she ensure all milestones are met and personnel are aware of inter-dependencies. He/she plans, coordinates, solves problems and reports status to leadership. While not all of TRIAD’s clients employ Program Managers, many do and therefore we maintain a strong network of local professionals.
Project Manager
TRIAD’s local network of engineers includes a large number of project managers, who oversee the entire project and ensure the final result meets the original project goals.
Project managers often perform the following functions:
- Management of project teams
- Project planning and budgeting
- Schedule preparation
- Cost estimates
- Resource allocation
- Vendor liaison
- Customer liaison
- Oversight of team member training
- Quality control
Principal Engineer
TRIAD recruits and places Principal Engineers across a wide variety of industries. These engineers are frequently the technical expert within their firm, with many years of experience working in his/her field. Given their depth and breadth of technical knowledge, Principal Engineers often provide guidance and oversight to multiple teams, and train or mentor junior staff.
Technical Lead
The Technical Leads with whom TRIAD works seldom have personnel management responsibilities. Rather, their expertise in a particular technical area allows them to guide others through technical challenges and solve complex technical problems. These engineers make a point to stay up-to-date on the latest technology, approaches and applications relevant to their area of expertise.
